Sustainability

The Well is committed to taking social responsibility. We are aware of our role and, in our daily operations, we focus on sustainability goals related to the environment, health, and equality. This means a lot to us and our employees – and we know it means a lot to our guests.

Environment
The Well is proud to be Miljøfyrtårn certified, which means we actively take responsibility for the environment and sustainable solutions.

As a Miljøfyrtårn, we have a strong focus on:

  • Waste reduction and sustainable waste management
  • Energy-efficient solutions
  • Procurement of eco-friendly products
  • Measures for a better work environment

We continuously work to offer a more sustainable spa experience – for both you and the environment.

Water & Energy is part of our identity, and the facilities at The Well require large amounts of water and electricity, which in itself are not sustainable. We are committed to preserving nature, and one of our main goals is to reduce our environmental footprint as much as possible. We do this, among other things, by using a very modern facility that recycles both water and heat. The heating of pools and the building is done through geothermal energy, and we also recycle our water and heat. Examples of measures include:

  • All available roof space is covered with solar panels.
  • All pools are required to circulate a certain amount of water for health and safety reasons – typically, this would drain into sewage. At The Well, we have an advanced purification and reuse system that ensures all circulated water is reused, with 70% of this water going back into the facility after thorough cleaning. This saves up to 50,000 liters of water every day.

  • Water from showers goes to sewage and is not reused – this is for strict hygiene reasons. The Well recycles the heat from this water, which results in a reduction of up to 100 kW per hour.

  • In the early years, we found that many guests forgot to turn off the showers, and as a result, we installed automated showers to save water.

Also in food and other products, we strive for sustainability in the following ways:

  • We have created a new swimwear collection made of 82% recycled material
  • Locally sourced seasonal food
  • Prioritizing organic food
  • Continuous focus on reducing plastic in all areas of operation

Health
The Well is here to provide people with a better life, and through the elements of nature, we create health-promoting experiences. The combination of water, cold, and heat helps increase blood circulation, which in turn can contribute to better immunity. Regular visits to us may therefore have a positive effect on your physical health. For many, The Well is also a sanctuary, where one has the time to relax and find peace – and we hope that a visit with us can lower stress levels for our guests, helping them find balance in a busy everyday life.

The Well should be a source of health-promoting well-being. That is why we always start with health when we develop new concepts, ensuring they can help improve guests' physical and mental health.

Equality and Tolerance
Equality and tolerance are our third sustainability goal. At The Well, you are free to just be – as you are created. Therefore, all kinds of people are welcome here. The Well is committed to diversity, and we are very proud to be a multicultural, multilingual, and rainbow-colored organization.

Transparency Act
The Transparency Act, effective from July 1, 2022, requires all businesses, including The Well AS, to be open and transparent about how our business impacts the world.

The law aims to reduce the risk of businesses causing or contributing to human rights violations, ensuring that we actively work to uphold decent working conditions at our suppliers, owners, and within our own operations. Read more here.
