Health & Wellness
There are numerous health benefits to going to a spa. The word spa is Latin and means health through water, which highlights the role water plays in both health and life.
Health Reasons to Visit The Well
The effects of sauna and spa visits are increasingly being highlighted by medical research communities. There is also a clear trend of using both hot sauna visits and cool baths as part of maintaining a holistic approach to fitness. Here are 6 important health reasons to make spa visits a habit.
Fountain of Rejuvenation
Regular use of saunas primarily strengthens the immune system. In Finnish literature, the sauna has been referred to as a "fountain of rejuvenation." Medical research continues to provide new insights into the effects of exposing bare skin to heat and cold for both body and soul.
The Naked Truth
At The Well, we maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Therefore, swimwear is not allowed in our saunas and steam baths. You may cover yourself with a towel or a pesthemal, a piece of lightweight cotton fabric.
A Vital Source
Water is the source of all life and the most widespread chemical compound on Earth. This element exists as a solid in the form of ice, as a liquid, and as a gas. Life itself is fundamentally built around water.
Therefore, it's natural that water plays a central role in nearly every culture and religion worldwide. Throughout history, water has been a symbol of purification, both spiritually and physically.
At The Well, you come close to the element of water in all its forms. Experience the melting ice effect in aufguss sessions, float in heated pools, immerse yourself in a cold plunge pool, and feel the therapeutic effects of steam on your body. Here, you can experience health through water.
Heat Exposure
Regular use of the sauna can have several positive effects on health. In Finland, the sauna is referred to as a fountain of rejuvenation.
By regularly exposing oneself to high heat, the blood vessels in the body are trained to react quickly to adjust body temperature. This helps keep blood vessels and arteries elastic.
Regular sauna visits can relieve pain in joints and muscles, promote relaxation, alleviate symptoms of stress, and improve sleep quality. Therefore, there is likely much truth to the Finnish concept of the fountain of rejuvenation.
At The Well, you can experience a wide variety of saunas, allowing you to find the fountain of rejuvenation that meets your specific needs.
Sauna Cycle
Taking a sauna requires cycles of both heat and cold to achieve the best effects. Start the sauna cycle by sitting in the sauna until you feel sufficiently heated. Exit the sauna and allow your body to acclimate to the air outside, perhaps taking a temperate shower. Then, proceed with a cold shower or cold bath to quickly cool down your entire body.
The alternation between heat and cold stimulates both the autonomic and somatic nervous systems. The heat in the sauna causes blood vessels to dilate, reduces muscle tension, and activates sweating. Cold exposure reverses this process, causing blood vessels to constrict and normalizing pulse rate.
Repeat the cycle as many times as desired, but always listen to your body and avoid any discomfort.
Steam
The use of steam and steam baths builds on traditions from ancient Rome, where steam baths were filled with vapor from natural hot springs. At The Well, we have four steam baths with different properties.
Exposing yourself to steam can have a highly positive effect on cardiovascular health because moist heat helps increase blood circulation in the body. This can lead to lower blood pressure and, over time, a healthier heart.
Steam also has a very positive effect on the skin by opening the pores. This helps release dirt and buildup of pollutants. Additionally, steam is hydrating, so you may experience silky smooth skin after a visit to the steam bath.
